感想
お馬鹿映画。おもしろい。
宇宙飛行士を差し置いて、石油採掘業者が大活躍。宇宙飛行士に、巨大な隕石に穴をあけて爆弾を仕掛ける技術を身に着けさせるのが正論。
労働者階級の男性視聴者が、主人公たちに自己投影する。エリート層を出し抜いた、と。そのために、宇宙飛行士たちがミッション失敗する脚本にした。
ハリー・スタンパーが家族や仲間のために自己犠牲。ハリウッド映画では主人公の自己犠牲がよくみられる。これも観客を気持ちよくさせるポイント。
エアロスミスのMV。エアロスミスの "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" のための映画。この歌がなければこの映画にたいした価値はない。
『アルマゲドン』が製作・公開された時には、まだスペースシャトルが現役だった。2011年8月31日のスペースシャトル計画の終了に合わせ、アメリカ航空宇宙局(NASA)は後継の宇宙船計画を進めていたが中止された。現在NASAはSpaceXなど民間航空宇宙会社を利用している。

ハリウッドでは、プロデューサーが次から次に大勢の脚本家を雇って、脚本を書き直し(rewrite)や推敲(polish)させることが多い。
関わった脚本家全員がクレジットされるとは限らない。一般論として、完成作品への貢献度でクレジットが決まる。全米脚本家組合が各脚本家の原稿を調査してクレジットを決める。書いた脚本が没になり、まったく使われなかった場合は当然クレジットされない。
脚本家のクレジットに一般的な Screenplay by と Story by だけでなく Adaptation by があるのは、全米脚本家組合のクレジット規則の影響。
Adaptation by は、参加した脚本家のクレジットに関する争いで全米脚本家組合が仲裁をした場合にのみ使用される特殊クレジット。

吹き替え版
フジテレビ版のマスターテープは廃棄されていた。日本テレビ版は、再放送時の2時間枠用(正味約90分)にカットされたバージョンしか残っていない。
BSジャパン(現・BSテレ東)は2016年に新録しようとしたが、ウォルト・ディズニー・カンパニーは新しい吹き替え版の制作を認めない。

2023年3月17日 21:00-22:59、日本テレビ系が『金曜ロードショー』で日本テレビ版を放送。BD/DVDに収録されていないので貴重。
『アルマゲドン』が地上波で全国放送されるのは10年ぶり。

ハリウッドは吹き替え文化に理解を示さず、各言語の吹き替えが1つあれば十分だろうと考えてきた。だから吹き替え版が複数ある作品では1つだけを「公式」に指定し、それ以外を廃棄処分したりしてきた。
ウォルト・ディズニー・カンパニーは特に吹き替えのオフィシャル化における強硬派であり、テレビ版吹き替えのマスターテープが存在する映画でも絶対に使わせないという断固たる意思のもと、テレビ局からのリクエストを拒絶してきた。また新しい吹き替えバージョンの制作を却下してきた。
ここ数年『金曜ロードショー』が、エミール・アルドリーノ監督『天使にラブ・ソングを…』(1992)及びビル・デューク監督『天使にラブ・ソングを2』(1993)の日本テレビ版を放送したし、2019年に買収した20世紀フォックスの映画であるクリス・コロンバス監督『ホーム・アローン』(1990)及び『ホーム・アローン2』(1992)のフジテレビ版を放送した。
ウォルト・ディズニー・カンパニーの方針が変わったと考えられる。
